05 pontiac vibe base air intake

Post by thyhobbit »

I have a 2005 pontiac vibe base 1.8L and have been looking into getting a cold air intake or short ram. Unfortunately Ive been having some trouble with finding one. Ive been looking at some of the K&N and they all say are for the GT. Some websites say it will fit, some say it wont. The one ive seen is the k&n 69-8601TR/TP. K&N told me they havent tested it with my specific vehicle. They didnt exactly say it wouldnt work. Any suggestions, will it fit or is there some other brand or adjustments I can do to get it to fit?

welcome to genvibe!

I don't know if GT intakes fit base Vibes, but you might check out viewtopic.php?f=46&t=44853 and contact roger_27 to see if he still has his intake for sale

You can re-route the stock intake.
I just used some 3" flex hose from the fiber hose to an area behind the front bumper, near the fog light.
That way you keep the more efficient stock filter, which is not not as restrictive as some claim.
Measurements with an OBD-II scanner confirm that the intake air is cooler.

Thanks for the idea. I was wondering if there were any reasons a cold air or short ram intake wouldn't work with my base vibe. Is there something or some part that would make a after market SRI or CAI not fit? Thanks for the idea, I do think that the K&N filters are quite a bit better but, dont have any experience, only research to back it up. My thinking is that all the bends in the piping cause losses that decrease the speed of the air and thus air into the engine. So I was planning on goin with an SRI, seems a bit safer too.

The tricky issue with aftermarket intakes is the MAF sensor.
The tubing where the sensor sits needs to be the same diameter as stock for the MAF to read air flow correctly.
The tubing for the GT (2zz-ge engine) is larger in diameter than the base (1zz-fe) and will not work right.
Oiled gause filters like the K&N let more dirt through to the engine.
Just shine a light through one and you'll see pinholes.
