My wife just doesn't understand...

Post by Reynoma »

I am devistated. My wife doesn't share my enthusiasm for everything Vibe. I've been telling her about all of the modificaitons that people are doing to their Vibe and the ones that I like/want. I've shown her the pictures....and you know what she says....."You know, it's just a car." JUST A CAR? My hopes of being able to spend some of our ever decreasing disposable income on mods is dwindling. I was able to get my seat covers, under the guise that it is an early birthday present. Now what do I do?

Mom's been making fun of me lately, too. She made fun of my stash of car-care products in the floor of my dorm room. And the fact that I wipe the car down with the car wash wipes once a week. But it looks really good!!

Lay it down in easy terms. $$$ and cents. Show her what she spends on herself. Hair/nails/chocolate/cloths/shoes you know the list. Just try to make the playing field fair. If she does not spend a whole lot of money on those things then she has a point. Spend the money wisely. Do you own a house? Are you going to have children? Make some investments. If you are young and do not want kids then live for today. You will want money for retirement but you do not need spend a ton of money for college for kids and xmas and all that crap. now I understand why I am broke. Before I was married I had a toy for every season. Now I drive a 11 year old car. My son will be able to go to any college he wants/I just bought a new house/I will retire with over $3,000,000 and if I die before then my wife will be rich.I guess I have different goals. Ask the wife to make a financial plan. Of course you still have to have money to have fun with.

This is what I get for being a car girl isn't it? I want all of the clothes and shoes and chocolate AND the accessories for the car.

if all else fails, strangle her and bury her in the back yard, then sell all of her stuff and buy lots of mods with the money you get.or, i guess you could talk it over, whatever works for you

If she doesn't know squat about cars, then just work it in as mantaining your car. "Honey, the shop said my car needs a new intake...you know, these Vibe's aren't Rolls-Royce's, they need a new intake every 20,000 miles!" I heard a C5 guy tell me he told his wife that Corvette's need new heads and a new cam every 30k. :D

First: I have three kids (a 7 year old daughter and 2 year old twin boys). Second, the "mods" I'm talking about are mostly visual (decals, deflectors, etc.) - nothing expensive. Third, my priorities are God first, Family second, everything else a distant third - so nothing like a car would ever get in the way of that.I guess my point was not the money aspect, just the enthusiasm aspect. I have "absorbed" the GenVibe enthusiasm for the car, and now I'm hooked. I've never had a car that I thought of as more than just a mode of transportation. Now, my Vibe is a personal statement.

See, I was a car nut before I met my wife and she knew I was going to stay that way long after she married me. She just accepts it now because I've been this way all along. Start slow. Decals and such are inexpensive and a good way to personalize. As she starts to see you're serious, she may begin to see it as a hobby. Good luck.

Believe me, I know what you mean. My wife feels the exact same way. She just doesn't understand that it is my hobby to make the Vibe an extension of myself. I just try not to spend too much time on it so that I don't take away from other things like the family and the house. I know how addicting this car can be, you just have to watch out how much you put into it whether it be time or money.

Now, my Vibe is a personal statement. All of my vehicles are peronal statements too. After three kids your wife must listen to you and become understanding. She probably will not get emotionally excited about the Vibe thing. It is my wife's vibe and I am the one online. I have always been involved in cars and she knows that I always try to involve her in things we can do together. There are just going to be some things that you will not do together. When your children grow up that may change or maybe one of them will find interest.

Well my wife hates the car, says I spend too much time on it and of corse the money she would rather spend on shopping. Guess it doesn't help matters that I won't let her drive it ever since I caught her light up in it. The car is my hobby, and its time well wasted.

well, being that i am a GIRL, i love my vibe. i get wrapped up in it too much and sometimes don't realize how much time and money i've spent on it. time flies when you're having fun! my friends and family do not understand, but have grown to accept it. you just need to train her slowly. eventually, she'll come around. i'm sure she likes her things to look nice too.and yes, it is a hobby.

Definatly don't want to sound sexist, but most women don't look at cars like a lot of guys do. As extensions of your soul and personality. As beautiful pieces of mechanical art. When most women think of art they think of diamond necklaces or a pair of expensive shoes. Some people do look at cars as just transportation, and I feel sorry that they can't understand how a piece of formed metal and plastic can make you feel on top of the world. A car has to speak to me in order for me to drive it, and when I first saw the Vibe it "screamed" at me to buy it.

I absolutely understand how it's an extension of your soul and personality...and can make you feel on top of the world. As I'm sure the other women here do as well, otherwise they wouldn't be here. Maybe if we talked to the missus... (Or maybe then she'd just think that there were some wacko women out there too, not just men.)

There is a simple solution that we use at the bike shop that would carry over if you find a dealer willing to work with you. When ever a male customer comes in and complains that his wife is not allowing him to spend the money on his hobby we offer to print them a reciept for any item with whatever price there signifigant other has allowed them to spend. "Hey honey!" ""I got a LiteSpeed Titanium Road bike today!:And guess what?""It cost $200!!!!!!!!!!!"

I, for one, care more for hps and lb-ft than karats. (Although, I won't quite go so far as to equate my car to a Kandinsky or a Michelangelo .) In my case, it's the opposite. My boyfriend is the one who doesn't understand. Then again, I can't understand why he gets so excited about whipples, lapcoli's and appendectomies. So it's okay. We both ignore a big part of each other's lives. I do envy those couples who can share everything Vibe, like Cool Vibes and his wife.

For all of the women on this forum who enjoy their vibe and have a passion for driving. BIG KISSES and hugs. You have a special place in my heart that my wife does not have. That is something we will never share. So if it is ok with the ladies here on the forum "I am cheating on my wife". I am here sharing interest in an investment that I share with other women. LOL it sounds way worse that it is but in a way it is true. I guess you can have it all if you know where to look.
