cooling fan issue

Post by jeff_j1701 »

Hi all!

I don't know how this happened, but somehow the mounts in my engine's cooling fan (that hold the fan blades on) have busted.

I've never hit anything or rear-ended someone, so don't know how they broke.

Can they be fixed, or do I have to buy a whole new cooling fan?

I called various scrap yards but they don't have a cooling fan for the Vibe/Matrix. I guess that goes to show how often these cars DON'T end up as scrap. :D

Quick search at Rock Auto was surprised they have a new complete assembly for $75, (my estimated shipping was $10) not sure what shipping will cost to your location. Also saw they sell the fan blade separate. I would remove the fan assembly, two 10mm bolts, wire connector and radiator overflow hose, see what failed. Might get lucky and just have cracked plastic blade. With those options you might find a similar price from local parts store.
