06 GT Questions......

Post by saweetlou »

Just picked up a 2006 Vibe GT and have a few questions. The power doesnt stay on after the car is turned off, like the radio stays on untill the door is opened. Is that even an option with this car. I should mention that there is a after market radio installed. The door locks dont lock once I start driving, is that something that can be programed and also how do you program the Auto windows to go up or down with one touch.
Im sure there will be more questions so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Welcome and congrats on the new to you Vibe! You got one of the last 1st gen GTs, lucky you! Have any pics you could post?

As for your questions, they are good ones. The Vibes don't have any retained power after you turn the key off. Neither my 03 GT nor my son's 06 have it. And since the car has a manual transmission, it does not have any way to trigger the automatic locking or unlocking of the door locks, which I do miss. My son's 06 is a base with an automatic and it does have the auto locking function. The only window that has the one touch function is the driver's window, and it only works going down.

These were pretty basic cars, so they don't have a lot of the extras that come standard on the newer cars. I wish there were cheap and easy ways to add functions to it.

Good luck with your new Vibe!

Welcome to GenVibe Lou :D We have two GT's in our family (one automatic and one manual) and as Thomas mentioned, only the automatic has the power locking/unlocking feature. They could have easily added a few more features to our cars with little or no added costs BUT their minds were elsewhere :o Post pics of your Vibe Gt soon!

Thanks for the Welcoming, I will post some pics soon although there isnt anything to make it stand out yet....
I am coming from a 2004 Jetta GLS which had every available option to the Vibe which is a little bit of an adjustment for me, I guess you could say I was a little spoiled with the VW.
So I have some more questions, How many liters of oil does it take(VVTI).
I have a light above the rear view mirror which has a on/off switch but doesnt come on when you open the door, is it just a map light.
The serpentine belt need to be replace, how big of a job is it.
Last question today, I have my old snow tires on vw rims which are 5/100, they should fit the Vibe right.

Even if your Vibe is bone stock, we still want to see pictures of it ;)!

As far as the light goes, I'm not positive since yours is a 1st gen (2003-2008) and mine is a 2nd gen (2009-2010), but the switch has on, off and door options. If it's set to off, it won't come on at all. If it's set to on, it will stay on until you shut it off and if it's set to door, it will come on when any of the doors or hatch are opened. If it's set to door, it should also come on when you remove the key from the ignition.

Yes, the VW wheels should fit. All 2003-2008 Vibes and 2009-2010 1.8L Vibes have a 5x100 bolt pattern. You do need to check the hub bore size though because I think it may be different. No big deal though, you may have to get some hub centric rings to make sure the wheels fit properly.
