best brand treatments?

Post by jeff_j1701 »

Hello,

I'm just wondering what everyone thinks is the best brand of treatments/additives out there.

Fuel system cleaner, fuel injector cleaner, gas treatment, etc.

I have an '07 Vibe and I've used Lucas and STP. Mainly STP because of the price. :)

Modern fuels are very cleansing as it is. There's no need for any additives.

I add a bottle of Techron to a full tank of gas for each of our Vibes every 5000 miles when I change the oil.

Usually add something labeled to neutralize water collection by ethanol. Agree most fuels now have better additive package, but they go only so far preventing the fuel system collecting moisture.

Even that is pretty much a thing of the past. Pure gasoline is oil like and will not mix with water. Ethanol mixes with water. In my area it is getting harder and harder to find ethanol-free gasoline and it is much more expensive the the ethanol blended gas. Therefore I use ethanol blend with about 10% ethanol. That eliminates any moisture problems.

Techron is really all that is useful for gas

I use some brand additives, satisfied with the kicks of using even if it doesn't work.
-Seafom for intake cleaning; making smoke is fun (my inner businessman says I would just put something in the product that guaranteed it would blue smoke no matter what when used in this manner)
-LiquiMoly I like the engine cleaner (my inner businessman says I would just put something in the product that guaranteed it would turn oil dark black when it contacted it)
-AMSOIL oils, can't really justify it
-Lugeguard if it's transmission related
-Oil analysis labs - if you really want to have an idea of what is going on in the engine, trans, cooling; have it analyzed

Agree, before water would collect in the bottom of the fuel tank. Ethanol however, absorbs water causing phase separation in the fuel, you end up with gasoline ethanol blend on top and a water ethanol blend on the bottom. This causes less issues than pure gasoline. Its the concentration of water that could be an issue. Especially in negative temperatures when you drive less allowing phase separation to accumulate.
