Need advice:Rodents chewing engine wires, need to know what the part is.

Post by zdkaiser »

Hi,

Long time no see Genvibe.

Anyways, I have a 2007 base automatic vibe. Mice have been living under the plastic engine cover. They started to chew some wire. I may need to replace the wires soon, but I don't know what the parts are. They chewed the wire casing off the three plugs that insert into the engine block on the top. It's not the 4 electrical connections that house the spark plugs, but the 3 plugs that are on the top, front of the engine (nearer to the headlights).

See picture below (not my engine). It's the three plugs just above the oil dipstick in the picture below.

Any help would be appreciated. THANKS!

Can you find a better picture and modify it with circles or something on MS paint?

If you did not know, this is going to become VERY common as the years go by as all manufacturers move towards "green" recyclable parts in all cars. As we speak, hoards of hungry rabbits are feasting on cars at Denver International Airport:

The issue is soy based wiring. http://www.termiteterry.com/rodents-fin ... ars-tasty/

Soy reinforces plastic/vinyl/rubber, and at the same time, makes it yummier for animals. Driving will soon be like sleeping in a tent in Glacier National Park with Sweet Baby Ray's barbeque sauce all over your shirt. Expect a visit from a furry friend in the middle of the night.

Honda makes a spicy wire wrap to repel hungry animals, I think it's called Rodent-Be-Gone or something. It has little pictures of a cartoon mouse face with the >.< expression all over it. Supposedly it works better than the treatment for wrap Toyota uses. I think the main issue is how unwilling manufacturers are to risk making their stuff more expensive.
