2005 GT - Radio On - Clicking Noise (Relay Like Sound)

Post by nixternal »

2005 Vibe GT with the Monsoon package. Sometimes, not all of the time, I will hear almost like a slow turn signal sound coming from my driver side behind the dash. I notice it only happens if I hit a bump in the road. I can stop it back banging the dash with my fist or by shutting of the radio. Anyone else experience this or have any ideas what to look for in fixing this? Thanks all!

The HVAC actuator on the passenger side is notorious for making a clicking sound. It tends to eat the gears on it. Not sure if you've had this issue before and/or replaced it. But, try turning on/off the recirculation when it does it and see if that makes a difference. My HVAC actuator made a horrendous noise and stopped after I replaced it.

Didn't get a notification someone posted. Yeah, I have that knocking noise, and my lazy (removed), instead of fixing that, I just shoved something in the switch that recirculates the air. That stopped that. I need to fix that issue too in the future, but right now, it almost sounds like my blinkers are on, but really slow, so my guess is that it is a relay in the dash on the driver side. If it wasn't so darn hot, I would go play with it right now.

To make it stop I can either shut the radio off, or pound on the top of the dash with a closed fist. That will make it stop until I hit another bump in the road :D

If you remove the passenger air bag, you can access the stupid actuator easily. Then you flip the gear because the replacements will just have the same problem, so make sure you get your money's worth out of it before you even think of getting a new one!
