Volume Knob Not Working

Post by newt »

I just bought a 2010 Vibe and the only thing wrong with it was that the volume/power knob doesn't turn up or down, unless I push it to the left and slowly turn it, and even then it's not really working all that easy.

I'm happy with the factory stereo, so in order to not change the whole deck unit, is there a way to replace or fix this solitary problem?
I tried to pull out the knob and it doesn't.

The knobs break all the time. There's a lip on the bottom so it doesn't pull straight out. You have to take the faceplate off and slide it out.

Thanks. I ended up buying an aftermarket deck because I needed Bluetooth anyway.

Now the deck I got is XM Radio ready. http://www.kenwood.com/ca/car/receiver/kdc-bt562u/
Do I need to buy the adapter (i.e. SXV300V1) that I install behind the deck and do I need to install the antenna, or can I use the Vibe's existing XM radio wires/connection to make it all work?

Dang. I was getting ready to ship you out some knobs :o Oh well, seeing how you replaced the HU I guess you won't be needing the knobs. Lots of topics on replacing the knobs on the 09-10 Vibe radios here on GenVibe. Post pics of your Vibe soon.

You know, after researching more last night I decided to keep the head unit, so I'd LOVE to have the knobs, if the offer still stands.
Just sent you a message...

The reason I changed my mind was that I'd lose the integration of the look on the dash, and then getting XM Radio afterwards would be a pain.
I think I can just use my phone as a GPS and use handsfree on it.
Also the bottom line is that I just bought the car, so I'm pretty strapped for cash.

Here's a how-to thread for replacing the broken radio knobs.

As tpollauf said, start a thread in the Vibe Lounge Forum introducing yourself and be sure to post some pictures of your "new" Vibe as we love pictures around here!

Newt. Any update on the radio repairs? Just want to make sure you received the knobs that I sent you and hope the repair was a success :D

Two things Toyota should have fixed years ago in response to many complaints. 1. This defective radio knob. 2. The defective gear on the on the motor that opens/closes the recirculation box. These issues don't just plague Vibe and Matrix, but also Corolla and probably other Toyoto models. One would think Toyota would place more value on their reputation.
