Aggravated ac

Post by Hbj069 »

Old school mechanic with ac how to knowledge is totally baffled by this, bought the vibe new (ordered for my wife) black 2009 gt with all the bells n whistles, in late 2010 wifey got sick and in 2011 decided to quit driving after sitting at a stop sign for 11 minutes waiting for it to turn green. That's no joke. On to the issue
Put the vibe in storage for about a year
Got the vibe out one day to run it around the block, ac ice cold.
Put back in storage for another year until my oldest daughter wanted to use it, wanted to help my daughter but wanted limited miles so I let some freon out in my ac recovery unit until it quit blowing cold, daughter drove it for a couple months then back in storage it went, on to 2015 when after my ram died we decided to get it out and drive it.

Ac little green lite does not come on on knob,
Compressor must be internal clutch design as there is no old style clutch on it.
There is no low pressure switch unless it's a dual switch on the high pressure line,
There is no relay, now where to be found,
Fuse shows good as it is on the same as the rear window defrost and it's fine
Static pressure reads 85 psi on the low side with vehicle running and does no change,
Fan does not come on when ac button pushed, engine idle does not increase.

So here ya go fellas as I am stumped, thanks in advance for all that helps.

First off welcome to GenVibe :D Just curious as to your total mileage so far seeing how this car's been in storage longer than driven. Location? Are you in an cold or warm climate? Why would you (or anyone for that matter) remove refrigerant from any system? I'd guess that you took out too much and your gauge is reading incorrect. The low pressure cutout switch (yes there is one but not sure where it is located) will usually cot-out around 20-30 psig. This prevents the compressor clutch from engaging and doing damage if there is no refrigerant in the system. If so I'd blow the remaining charge, evacuate the system, and recharge the proper amount by volume (measure it in) to where it is right on the money. Assuming you have the tooling & equipment to do this, it should be a breeze. Keep us posted here

Thank you for the advice, my 09 gt is showing 56k on the meter, the car is in the south, kids will drive way way less without ac.
Recharging the system;
I do have the knowledge as well as equipment to do so, the problem is with the low pressure switch which as of now is still has not been located. Tried putting power to the compressor and it works like it should, pressures are close but it will still not operate.

Wiring diagrams
I have looked at several and none match, went to the matrix forums and checked there, closest one shows mg/cst relay but none on my car. Have checked every fuse and relay can't find relay that should control ac.

I haven't messed with my Ac yet but I am intrigued that it doesn't click on an off and cycle like normal systems. I'm not quite sure how it works. I do however have access to wiring diagrams, so I hope these help!
