Replacing Blower Motor

Post by zbyers »

My blower motor on my '07 Vibe squeals pretty bad. I bought a new motor for it pretty cheaply. I'm looking to throw it in this weekend. Is there any write up on how to do this? I'm sorry it's rather self explanitory, but a previous write up is always helpful. If there is not one, I will try to get some pics, as well. Thanks for the help!

VERY easy. Remove the glove box; it pulls out and un-clips from the dash. Then unbolt the computer under the glove box opening - 2 bolts. Disconnect the electrical plug to the blower motor, then you can reach up and unbolt the three bolts that hold the blower motor in place. I think it took me about 10-15 minutes to swap it out on my son's 06.

Good luck!

Thanks for the information TRB. I'll try to get at it this weekend. I figured it was simple, but another car I owned wasn't so. Had to take the dash off, airbag out, etc. Glad to hear this is much easier.

Would you look at that! Much simplier than anticipated. Finished in about a half hour. :D Very simple to work on. Next project, replacing the scissors to the window on the drivers door..

don't brake the switch panel.

I bet that blower motor just needs a drop of oil.

I took the door panel off a few weeks ago. That's pretty simple, luckily I didn't break anything. The window made a really loud "POP" when it went up and down. It's not the door chuck issue as I've check that. I looked at the scissors for the window and found out that they're bent which is making the window go up crooked. Straightened them out some, but it still doesn't shut flush and I can't bend it anymore. Found a new set of only $50 including motor so it should go smoothly.

I'm gonna keep the blower motor. I'm sure that's all it needs, but a new one is in already so I should be good to go!

Obviously you know how to turn a wrench. Consider putting some sound deadener in the doors, in the trunk area and in the side panels of the trunk in particular behind the sub woofer if you have one. You won't believe how nice the stock stereo will sound.

Very tempting idea, but I don't have the money right now. Been working on my Vibe and my girlfriend's car gettin' that up and running. Apparentely, I must not have put in the seal for that blower motor correctly as I'm getting a little bit of water dropping onto the floor after I washed it.. It can never be easy. :x

Good job on the repair. A lot of times, noisy blower motors simply have a leaf or other debris in the cage and it ticks or rattles at lower speeds. I can't tell you how many times I've replaced the motor in a vehicle thinking the brushes or commutator was going bad, only to have it be debris instead. But yes, it's an easy swap-out in the Vibe.
