2004 Vibe back hatch won't open fully?

Hi all, like the title says, the hatch won't open fully when I open it...it only opens about 80% of the way when I open the hatch and let go. I can then open it fully, but by pushing upwards. What's the remedy...lube, or replace the struts?

Most likely you need new struts. But try lube in the hinges first, I mean it would be so cheap if it does the trick.

I know the hatch struts for the 2nd gen Vibes are ridiculously cheap (like under $20.00 a piece), so I imagine the ones for the 1st gens should be pretty cheap as well, probably even cheaper!
