New in town...

Hi all,

My son finally got his permit (and getting license soon) so decided to get him a used car so he can learn how things work and let him modify it according to his taste, etc.

I wanted a dependable car too and one that was fuel efficient, and the Vibe fit the bill. Got him a 2003 Vibe Basic, fwd. 124K miles. (See pic)

Anyway, I'm trying to get all the parts and pieces that are missing from it, and although I've been able to locate the parts on the web, there's one I can't seem to find. I've gone to the salvage yard and not many Vibes or Matrix models where I've hit.

Anyone know what this part is?

Thanks!

Welcome to GenVibe! You certainly picked a great first vehicle for your son! My mom and I both have 2009 Vibe GTs, so I'm of no help with the part you're searching for, but I'm sure someone will chime in with some info for you soon.

Welcome to Genvibe! These cars are tanks for the size. I put my 16 y/o daughter in an AWD Matrix because of safety record. My wife was skeptical at first but showed her an article of one falling off a 30 foot bridge and the people walked away with minor injuries.

Thanks for the welcome.

@99DAK: Thanks for the info. With all the information on this forum, I obviously missed it and never knew the exact term to search for.

@cptnsolo77: Paid $3500. Running great so far and son loves it.

@Salsa Guy: When I brought it home, wife was "Pontiac Vibe? Never heard of it." I told her how it had been listed as one of the most reliable used cars to purchase and safety record. She was skeptical but after doing her own research, she saw the light. "But I never see these on the road," she said. We went out the next day and was able to point out three as we were driving. She says, "I guess they are around, never noticed." :)

Congrats on the purchase for your son. It looks really good and if he tales good care of it, it should last him a good long time. Sounds like you got a great deal on it too. We bought the 06 Vibe for my son back in 08 and it has been a great car for him all through high school and college, especially transporting all of his stuff around. I drove his for a year since he didn't need it his freshman year, and ended up buying two for my own use!

Welcome to GenVibe. Awesome job uploading a photo right away AND disclosing your location ;) My son (now 20 and in college) liked my Vibe so much that he wanted one for himself! In fact, had he not been so lazy he would be driving mine to this day BUT it's a 5-speed manual and he refused to learn to drive stick! (his loss for now) So we found him a nice Blue one four years ago and met him half way on the price. These are great cars and your son will love it and put it to the test. Enjoy the ride and visit us here often!

Welcome to GenVibe! My Vibe is my first car, and I love it. I'm now 20 and living several states from home, and this car hasn't missed a beat. Even when hauling all my crap to/from college. So rest assured, that Vibe will last more than long enough for your son's purposes. And, if you or your son are more savvy to Facebook, we have a page there as well.

My Vibe was missing that little cover as well. Picked up the part silly cheap from the local Toyota dealer.

Enjoy your time here!
