Post by bountybuddy »

My 2004 Vibe is nearing 100,000 miles and i would like to do all maintenance in it and maybe a tune up. Will you please tell me what maintenance I should do and should I also get a full tune up. Many thanks for your help my friends. Drive safe.

At 100k should be a major overhaul of fluids. Brake fluids, differentials, transmission fluid and filter, coolant and spark plugs.

Not much else I can think of right now. Maybe just giving your throttle body a good cleaning as well.

Thanks so much for your help triz. The dealer I bought the car from was supposed to mail me a manual for it this past Monday but I still do not have it. I'll probably have to wait until March to get the tune up but it will still have under 100,000 miles on it. It will probably cost some serious bucks. Do you have any idea how much it might cost? I'm going to switch over to Mobil 1 High Mileage oil. I've read so many good things about it. Thanks again for your help. I hope you have a great year. Drive safe my friend.

Assuming your doing this yourself it should not be too much. I assumed you had an automatic. Manual will be cheaper.

Spark plugs (Iridium) 30 dollars for 4
Brake fluid 10-15 dollars
A/T Transmission fluid 25-35 dollars (for a drain and fill)
Toyota Long Life coolant 25-30 bucks
Wix Transmission Filter 20-25 bucks
Differential fluid 12 dollars

I did not list the power steering fluid, but you can use the transmission fluid leftover for that. Cost should be around 150 for everything. Not bad considering it will be a long time before you have to change them again.

Brake fluid should be done every two years or so as it soaks up water from the atmosphere and lines. Spark plugs are around 100k miles intervals, coolant around 100k intervals, transmission around 60k mile intervals, diffs 100k.

If I can help with any of the fluids let me know before you order. I highly recommend the Amsoil transmission fluid probably one of the best out there. I did find it odd that I was unable to find a quality transmission filter for your car at the local shops and it was not even listed on Amsoil's website. Price quoted was from O'reillys auto parts.

About the differential: Is it separate from the transaxle? Or do you refer to the rear differential of an AWD? Thanks for clarification.

BTW you just wrote my "to do list" come Spring.

Triz maybe I can get a quality transmission fluid filter through Toyota for the 2004 Toyota Matrix. The 1.8L base engine for both the Vibe and Matrix are the same motor. I sure hope so. I was going to buy all this stuff through Auto Parts Warehouse. I'm also thinking of replacing all of the belts and hoses, just to be on the safe side. On my last birthday I turned 70. My body isn't as flexible as it once was. Good chance I will have to pay someone to do the work on my 2004 Vibe. Hopefully they will have a reasonable price for doing it. I can't thank you enough for your help my friend. Watch out for the crazy drivers. Drive safe my friend. May all your paths be bright ones.

I forget sometimes the Vibes are front wheel drive. So yes in that case it would only apply to the AWD.

Wix is a quality filter. I just found out the only place listed was Oreillys. I usually carry them but could not find one on my website. So you could use Wix or an OEM filter from Mr. T. You can space out the cost by staggering the services.

The transmission service is probably one that benefits from an early change.
