Alternator/Battery indicator light stays on (but dim)

I have something strange happening with my '04 Vibe- approx 72,000 miles on the car. The alternator/battery indicator light on the dash stays dimly lit during normal daytime and nighttime driving, but the dash indicator light turns off when I'm idling at a stoplight. Rev the engine and the light goes back on. The battery is newer, with clean connections. The serpentine belt is tight. Anyone else have this issue? It's easy to check the alternator with a multimeter. It should put out around 14.3 volts.
