Removing Heater control switch

I have an 03 Vibe, how does the heater control switch come out? I need to replace mine and I have all the trim around it off, and it wiggles and slides freely, but I can't actually pull it out or reach the connectors in back to disconnect them?

I had to replace mine years ago and encountered similar difficulties. Since I was replacing the part, I ended up breaking it to get it out. I know, no help. But there was something mysterious keeping it in place, very strange.

Just to make sure... Have you tried disconnecting the control cables for airflow and temperature from under the dash?

I have never tried, but perhaps these parts from the Matrix manual will help
