Interior Led Light Strips

Post by rschrope »

what is the best way to wire interior led lights to a power source? I want to have them hooked up to a custom switch on the panel to the left of my steering wheel. I know I need to run them up into my engine, but I need to figure out the best source of electricity to use, without taking too much power from something else. :?

Pick up an add-a-circuit and connect it to one of your accessory fuses, e.g. radio or cigarette lighter. This way they're switched with the ignition. It's been 9 years since I did the install so I can't recall for sure which one I used. The LED's have since quit working - still getting voltage to them so I just need to replace them. ;)

There's also a convenient bolt for grounding nearby if you remove the kick panel trim on the driver's side.

Can you run it to the interior fuse box? Or do i have to run the wires out to the engine fuse box?

You can use the internal fuse box (above the brake pedal). Their are a number of circuits that can be used. Below link to a thread on similar questions, shows the fuse block as well as tips on connecting extra devices. I made my own "add a fuse" but they can be bought at many auto parts stores for $6-10 each. The critical part on the add a fuse, make sure to install correctly, make sure to identify the sources side (from battery) and the load side (to device)

I pulled the LED's out this weekend. I was using an Add-A-Circuit plugged into the CIG fuse location in the under-dash fuse block.
