Do all 6.5" speakers fit the front door?

Post by robtec88 »

Title says it all. I have a 2006 Vibe and according to Crutchfield.com, not all of their 6.5" speakers seem to be compatible with the front doors on a 2006 Vibe. How is that possible? Shouldn't pretty much any 6.5"/6.75" car audio speaker fit the front door on a Vibe?
I ask because there are some speakers I'm looking at from manufacturers that aren't carried by Crutchfield but they can't tell me if they fit a Vibe.

Cheers :?

Depth requirements, methinks. I noticed the same when I was shopping.

I have read around here that the fronts require a more shallow speaker as to not interfere with the window mechanism... There is plenty of space in the rear doors as the window doesn't go that far down so there are more options available back there...

The only limiting spec is the speaker depth. You can view the depth of the speakers that crutchfield says will fit, find the deepest ones and use that as a comparison to the speakers you're considering.

In addition to the magnet depth. Some large basket 6.5" and 6.75" Also the metal in the door may need to be trimmed to fit. I remeber ther is a set of higher end Alpine componants where this need to be done. Other 6.5" are closer to being a 5.25" and may need an adaptor ring.

Thanks guys. The size of magnet, basket and depth seem to make sense.
I went ahead and ordered a set of Alpine SPS-610C components right from Crutchfield. They said they fit my front doors and they supply the adapter rings for free. I hope I can get the tweeters to fit nicely into the 'sail' panels up by the mirrors or I might just put them in the door panels about 3/4 the way up to the top of the panels. I'll post some pics when it's done...if it turns out well.

When I purchased my Polks I bought the shallow mounts, I beleive at one time a member installed "standard" size 6.5" Polk but it was a tight fit. I wanted plug & play so i went with the shallow mounts.
