CAI for the 2004 GT?

Post by Roadpig »

I've been reading a lot about CAI's on this forum, especially since I'm interested in putting one in my 04 Vibe GT. To my dismay, I read a lot about how it maybe impossible to put one in Never the less, I've cruised the web to try & find more info, and that's when I came across COSMO Racing (cosmoracing.com) and specifically, part #VIBE03GT-CAI. They state that it fits a Vibe GT 03+, so I e-mailed them and asked if that means that it fits a 04. The reply was "yes"....I'm highly suspicious of this, since I know the 04 engine has some mods that make it impossible to install a 03 or even a CAI altogether. What do you think?

I think they're gonna tell you whatever you want to hear to sell you a part.I'd say it won't work. Save your money and the hassle..

yes, definitely wait until you get a reputable company that says they have one. they may not know the 04 GT airbox/ecu is different.

On this page, toward the bottom is a picture of an '04 Matrix XRS with the Cosmo CAI. Someone then says that it's the only CAI that will work on the '04. Not sure why the Vibe would be any different, but it's possible. I'm going to keep researching, but until I find more supporting info, I'm going to say avoid it. If you read through the whole thread on MatrixOwners (link above), the guy who put it on says that the smog pump is disconnected. I'm not sure if that's required, of if it's just something he did. I guess I'd have to see install instructions.

I appreciate the link millster (read the whole thing), some interesting stuff. Disconnecting the smog pump? I guess the car runs OK w/o it? I think I'll still a little while longer to see what develops in the CAI for the 04 GT market!
