turn the key to start. when it starts it seems like the starter keeps spinning ,same as if you were still holding the key in start positon.
i had similiar problem with a 2004 corolla and our old 2003 vibe. had starters replaced and didn,t have problem again.
any idea,s what happening? thanks for any advice.

sucks to have so many starter issues. Did you ever get it resolved?
What I think happens is that when the key is turned, the starter relay closes and applies electricity to the starter solenoid. This makes the shaft of the starter kick out and engage the engine flywheel. It also makes an electrical connection inside the starter that provides electricity to the starter motor, and the motor spins. When the key is released, the relay opens, and a spring in the starter solenoid pulls the starter shaft away from the flywheel and disconnects the internal power to the motor. While it could be a sticky starter relay, but given your history of similar issues resolved by a starter replacement, it seems more likely that the problem is inside the starter, something sticky, either the spring not pulling the shaft back far enough, or the internal power connection for the motor not opening when the shaft is pulled back.
When the starter failed in my first 03, it just stopped doing anything. At least it is not complicated to replace one.
Mine made this sound once and a while for about a year then became more common. Just gave up one day and just made a clicking when turning the key. replaced with a re manufactured one.
