100 amp alternator fuse

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here has ever changed the 100 amp alternator fusible link in the fuse box under the hood? When I tried to replace it the top ripped off and left the legs in the socket. I tried to pull it out with needle noised pliers but couldn't get it to budge. looking at the new one it looks like it maybe bolted in. Is there away to get it out. I had to bypass it with a heavy gauge wire to start the car.
