Need Advice - Wheels for racing ?

Post by philndz »

I'm just looking for advice and insight.I need another set of wheels for Autocross racing. I will put a set of Falken Azenis on the new wheels.I would like something pretty light and would consider a 15inch or 16 inch wheel. What do i need to know about size? 5x100mm is the bolt pattern...what offsets can our car take?Also...i am really looking to spend very little so i have been searching ebay and such for wheels from cars that would fit....what cars fit the vibe....celica?'03 corollas do fitcamry?sunfire?i see VW/Audi use a 5x100mm does that mean they will fit the vibe?what others are out there?steelies are a last resort...not good performance and look goofy!

i found a long list of cars whose wheels have the same bolt pattern....would different offsets prevent all these from fitting?

i thought they were heavy....and im told they flex too much and have lousy brake cooling.....but it may become an option.

Go to a couple of meets and see what other people are running. Talk to some of the old Auto Xer's. They can steer you in the right direction as far as brand, size, width, etc. I would think that going smaller would be lighter, but you would have more tire roll and smaller contact patch.Try to find some 16" celi wheels. They're pretty light and are a direct fit.

I think you can find new wheels - 16" size -- there are some light ones such as Enkei's RPO1- I think they still sell that at Disount tire. I would think that you would want at least 16" and probably even 17" - the shorter/stiffer sidwall is what you want for autocrossing. Tirerack sells a new line of wheels called Kazaera (i think that is how you spell it) - the wheels are inexpensive (17" goes for about 130 each and the 16" would go for even less) The wheels are some of the lightest wheels I have seen for the price (some of the 17" Kazera wheels weight in at about 17 or 18lbs) The weight of the wheel can be seen when you use the interactive wheel viewer. But just like someone else said - go to some meets and find out what other people use or recommend - tell them you are new to the sport - I am sure they will steer you right.hope this helps

ive been to a number of meets and talked to tons of folks....i could simply continue to run my street tires but i would like something w/ more grip but of course if i get good rubber then i dont want to waste it on the street. the kumhos have done real well at the last events though...very impressive for street tires....very little sidewall roll!
