Rear seat wet in center

Post by Scwmcan »

I know it has been awhile since I was last here, but everything has been working well for the last year. I do have a problem now, the center of my rear seat is wet. I felt the headliner and it is dry, the sides of the seat are dry as well. I haven't looked too hard yet ( just noticed it tonight as I got home from work), but as I said the headliner is completely dry. Is the a geometry under the floor/ seat that could have come out, or I am looking at sunroof drains and / or problems around the roof rack mounts ( which would both seem odd to me since the headliner is dry). Forgot to mention this is on my 2009 matrix with sunroof. Any ideas would be appreciated

Hmm... Smell it. Under the center of the rear seat is the fuel pump. If it isn't rainwater coming from above, it might have either gotten between the seal, or from the tank itself.

Lol, no nobody has been sitting here. Did some further investigation, still don't know how he water is getting on the back seat, the plugs underneath are secure and not leaking, headliner as stated before is perfectly dry.
That said I have found some other issues with water, which I have to look into on the weekend when I have time to take apart more of the interior. The rear passenger floor was soaked, and it almost looked like it had come in over the door seal, now this might have already been solved, and I might not have noticed the floor being wet, the rear window was opened a crack and I didn't notice until I washed the car, however that was over a week ago and I think the water would have dried up by now of it were from that. I have seen a couple do drips from the area around the rear seat belt by the pillar ( passenger side). I also have water coming in from around the interior cover for the passenger side tail light.
I checked the sunroof drains up top, there is no debris up there and the area was dry, I know this doesn't rule out a problem somewhere else, but where do the drains go to in the car? There is no water in the front passenger side.
I removed my roof racks, and made sure the holes were all plugged with bolts, I don't think the water was coming in that way but it has been removed as a potential problem anyway.
Even with these other water spots I still can't find anything that let's me figure out where the water in the center of the rear seat is coming from, but I am sure get rid of these other problems will limit the possibilities.
I have a strong feeling some of this is still from the repairs from the tree falling on the car last summer, will have to see what I can find, but no repairs were done on the roof or sun roof, really just the rear hatch glass, and passenger side " window" in the rear pillar.
So any more ideas with this information?

Well I have checked the sunroof drains, all clear, made sure the sunroof is fastened tightly ( no loose bolts). Checked around the replaced glass, checked the plugs in the floor, checked the seals of the doors, and as stated before removed the roof racks. I didn't find anything that would explain the leaks, will have to do a hose test tomorrow and see what I can find. Hasn't rained heavily the past few days so don't know if I solved anything or not.
I can say that now that I know how easily the interior comes apart for the most part, that if/ when the leak is gone I will be adding some sound deadening product to the car, along with a few other changes to bring it even more to my wants/ needs.
