Tire Pressure Monitor System

Post by jeff_j1701 »

Hey all!

I have a feeling that the TPS may be malfunction, as it's always going off even though my tires haven't lost any air.

About a month ago I hit a nasty pothole (that I couldn't avoid or else I would hit incoming traffic) and I dented two rims and I had to replace one winter tire. The rims are steel and the tire is a decent one; not the cheapest but not the most expensive either.

However, since then the TPS monitor keeps going off, and then I check the pressure all the tires are fine. Well, maybe a 1% loss in pressure but that's pretty normal especially in winter.

Do you think that the monitor has to be set somehow? And pressing the pressure reset button doesn't seem to help either.

Assuming you don't have sensors in the wheels (if you did, the valve stems would be metal, not black rubber), did you follow the TPMS reset procedure? Just pushing the set button turns off the light temporarily...

Yes I did this already, but thanks for the info!!

I take my car in for a semi-annual inspection so maybe I should have them look at it.

An no, I don't hve the sensors in the wheels...too expensive at $65 a pop.

From your other posts, you have a 2007 Base?

Does it have ABS and, if so, is the ABS functioning properly?

Wondering if the wheel speed sensor was damaged/disconnected during the pothole impact...

It is an '07 Base, and yes it has ABS.

Never thought about sensor. Thanks!
