I ordered a set from the dealer the other day, just wondering if someone has pictures of them installed on there vibe? they only cost me $36 dollars for the pair.

I'm not picking up my Vibe until Thursday, August 29, but I've had the flaps installed, and the car is sitting on the dealer's lot. They look good, and in my opinion, they're a worthwhile accessory, as I live on a gravel road. The cost was C$47.10 for all 4 flaps, plus C$27.50 installation charge (30 minutes), plus 15% federal and provincial tax.I'm looking forward to picking it up, as I want to leave on a 2000 mile trip as soon as I've completed the break-in routine, and had it rust-proofed. Although the owner's manual doesn't mention it, I assume it's a good idea to change the oil and filter after the first 1000 miles. Any opinions on that? The only thing I hate about the car is the red instrument dislay. During the day, I imagine it will be a pain in the neck, trying to read it with sunglasses on.

I don't have a picture yet. When I get one, I'll scan and post it.It's an AWD, two-tone (I prefer the unpainted cladding - I've been driving a RAV4 with unpainted cladding for the past 4 years - lots of stones and stuff hit it, and it's none the worse for wear),. The colour is Shadow, so the flaps match both the cladding and the paint job pretty closely.I forgot to mention that I also had the side window weather deflectors installed. The cost was C$48.40 plus C$27.50 labour plus 15% tax. I've been told they're quite functional, and they're tinted to boot.I was in Denver a few weeks ago, and I rented an AWD Matrix for a day. We drove on the Interstate, as well as on side roads, up to about the 12 000' level. The only problem (aside from the faint instrumentation) was that, at 70 mph, I had to disengage overdrive on long uphill grades, while the a/c was running. Actually, it performed better than my 98 RAV4 under similar conditions, because the AWD Matrix/Vibe is about 700 lb. lighter, and has 123 hp, as opposed to 120 hp.I don't know whether this is the wrong section in which to mention this, but there is one other problem with the Vibe that an accessory could correct. In heavy rain, it quickly becomes impossible to see through most of the rear window, because of the small rear wiper. A rear window wind deflector would solve that problem nicely. I have one on my RAV4, and it's been worth its weight in gold.
You paid $27 to have the side window weather deflectors installed?!?!?You do know that they just slide into the window channel. They take about 5 seconds each to install.
Yes, I paid C$27.50 plus tax. No, I didn't know they just slid into the window channel. I looked at them, and saw some sort of adhesive strips on the upper surfaces. They began the discussion by telling me that the labour charge for both the flaps and deflectors would require 1.5 hours for installation. I told them, I'd pay for 30 minutes for each job.I guess I've been taken for a ride by my dealer. Live and learn.
My understanding is that the prices of the factory accessories that are dealer installed are just that including installation. If not I would do it myself.

I have no pics of my car yet. As soon as I get one (it may be a month or more, because I'll have to take 26 additional pics), I'll post it.In the meantime, let me assure you that they look good, and they're certainly functional.

Hey! I guess GM isn't done abusing me. My dealer sez my car is in, minus mudlaps and hood deflector. Unreal I guess 21.5 weeks isn't long enough to get their accessories in order either. I guess I will always be FROSTY

Does anyone around have any pics (or can take them) of the mudflaps installed on their Vibe?Preferrably a closeup of one and a wider angled shot showing the way they look, etc.
Hey Nick, Im going to order some from my local dealer in a week or two. I talked to some body shop workers about painting them to match my monotone. They said there are primers that will etch the plastic to help the paint adhere. I'll keep ya posted on them when I get it done.[Modified by rasermon, 9:53 PM 9/22/2002]

Turns out that the dealer had mud flaps to fit the Vibe, he thought I wanted flaps that say Vibe instead of Pontiac. I told him I really don't care as long as they fit. Will install and post pics this weekend. I saw a lady with a shadow two tone vibe with the same flaps. It looked good, like they belonged. Sort of reminded me of the WRC cars like a Ford Focus with flaps. Gave it a look like it was rough road ready.

Just installed my "splash guards" today. Other than removing the rear wheels, it was an easy process to install. Same shade as the cladding. They look real good !
quote:Just installed my "splash guards" today..... They look real good ! Stands Alone: Honda used to provide custom flaps for me and they looked like they really belonged there. The ones I was sold are generic for minivans & SUV's according to my dealer. Front, rear all the same. The front ones look ok. I may want something different at the rear.Did you get your flaps from the dealer?Did your mudflaps say Vibe or Pontiac? How high did you set the back ones? Could you measure from the ground to the bottom of the flap for me?Thanks.

I bought the vibe slash guards and installed then last saturday...they look really good even though I do have a monotone vibe. The guards are made specifically for the vibe and fit the shape of the wheel opening. Fronts are really easy to put on while the rears need a few holes drilled. They are plain and don't say anything on them. The front and rears are different!!
quote:The front and rears are different!!Thanks. I obviously got a bum steer from my dealer. Not having much luck with accessories. No hood deflector, wrong flaps....

I had service put mine on since you have to take off the rear tires.

Be careful retorquing the lug nuts the instructions say 100foot/lbs but these are very small studs I snapped one stud(was probably cracked to begin with) and retorqued the rest to 95lbs.

quote:Do the factory splash guards use existing mounting points on the car or did you have to drill holes? The GM Accessories Mud Flaps use the existing mounting points for the front flaps (no drilling required), but you will have to drill 2 holes for each rear flap. Also for the rear flaps, the instructions say a 3rd hole is necessary, but left out that step in the instructions. The 3rd and only hole left to attach (towards the bottom of the rear flap) did not require a drilled hole as I pulled out a plastic push-in bolt and screwed it in there. Seems to work fine and aligned correctly.
I have an abyss monotone and I managed to get the front flaps on myself. The rears: drill into my baby? You've gotta be kidding me! Anyway....I'm not stoked with how they look - has anyone looked into painting their flaps or is it just a waste of time (i.e. any kind of paint would just chip off)?
you only drill out the plastic plug it won't hurt your baby

I may have to do something with mine - they use this really sharp crushed stone around here during winter (PA) - I cringe anytime I drive over it because it sounds like a sandblast job except worse. Funny how I never noticed it with my old 95 Protege!btw- that frosty looks great!

They are wonderful. When I first got my VIbe, I noticed that everytime I turned it threw water, dirt, rocks, etc right past my window and also toward the side of the car. They also look good on the Vibe's. The only thing you all should look out for is going over curb sized things that the mud flaps have a lower ground clearance and mine have hit/rubbed a few things. It hasn't done any damage but it could over the right debris. I've noticed that they also look good whether you have tow ton or monotone.
