My 2005 Vibe Transmission is Slipping

Post by ProVibe »

Hi Fellow GenVibers,
I haven't been on the board in a while. I got married had a kid and life just went crazy, also now expecting a second kid. :)

I knew when my Vibe started having issues I could come back here and get solid advice.

My beloved Salsa Red 2005 Vibe's tranny is slipping and I want to get another but I am unsure if the specs for this one on ebay fit my car.

How do I find out if my 2005 Pontiac Vibe fits the bill? - VIBE 05-06 A.T.; (1.8L, VIN 8, 8th digit), FWD (opt MU4)

I know mine is 1.8L Automatic FWD, but I am notsure of the VIN8, 8th digit and opt MU4.

I just have a base vibe not a GT with the FWD. Is there something I can look up in the car?

welcome back.

Congrats on the major life events, probably hard to remember what ti was like before them.

You probably have, but if not, check the tranny fluid level. Almost all the time I have had a auto tranny slip has been due to low fluid

That tranny should fit. The 03-08 base auto tranny is model A246E, but used car parts places usually refer to them by model & year, so you should be good with an auto non-AWD tranny from a Vibe, Matrix or corolla. Don't know where you are, but http://www.car-part.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; has a on-line search for junkyard parts, can help find a used tranny near you. A local junkyard may even be able to do the install for youfor a good price. If you do replace the tranny, be sure to get one with a warranty
