My cynical self was wondering if the 200 watt "Moon and Tunes" stereo is the same one as the base model with just the two speakers added?Out of curiosity I pulled the dash apart on my one day old Vibe and found an unused twelve pin plug recepticle on the back of the base stereo unit. What would this be for other than adding speakers? Why twelve pins when four would suffice? Anyone know what this is for? Some cars are assembled with wiring looms that are identical throughout the entire trim line with the switches and gismo's the only things missing. If I was to pull the door panel off, would I see wires for the small door mounted "moon and tunes" tweeters there?I did pull off the window switch panel on the door and found a black and white striped wire dead ended with a weird green rubber cap on it. Any one know what that is? Thanks,ScottMERGED FROM OTHER POST BY MODERATOR:This is sort of a follow up to a general post I made before I found this "stereo specific" board.Once I started playing my CD's in my new base Vibe I realized how crappy it sounded. Are new good quality speakers enough to bring it up to at least "good"? Are the wires for the "moon and tunes" door tweeters in the doors if you don't get that package? After I read here I'm guessing that the empty twelve pin recepticle in the back of the stereo is for the amp if you get the M&T. If I feel that my base unit needs more power is there any way to connect to this plug? Would you even know what wire went where without a wiring diagram?Or should I just sh*t can the whole thing?Next question: How to you mount aftermarket stuff? Do you need a dummy plate? Thanks from a Lava Vibe owner with one whole day under his belt.
The M&T package only gives you 2 tweeters and a 200watt(Peak but not RMS) amp. It is quite piontless to spend that money for those piddly extras, so thats probly why they combined it with the moon-roof. I have heard both and noticed no noteworthy sound improvement. The stock head unit is weak, and while it will drive better speakers much nicer than the stock ones, you really should either amp them, or go with a better player. I would install the speakers first just to see, before spending even more. The best post as far as new speaker installation is here http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=785

I believe the unused jack on the back of the base head unit is for an external cd changer. Actually I'm in the process of trying to "pin out" this jack to determine which pins are "line-in" connections (if 4 of them are). I'll definately post any findings, but it may be a while with mandatory O.T. at work, a 14 month old boy, and the Holidays within sight.Carl
This is probably a stupid question, (had my Vibe almost a week now) but where exactly are the additional 2 speakers that come with the Moon and Tunes package? Is it possible to do anything with the 200 watt amp, other than power those speakers... such as run subs or anything like that? I don't know much about all this audio stuff, so any help would be much appreciated.

The extra tweeters are up by the side mirrors. At the Michigan meet, TritonGT noticed that my Matrix had chrome door handles, compared to the black ones in his Vibe. Each of us wanted the other, so ilquikgtx swapped them for us. Doing audio installs he has a lot of experience ripping doors apart! While photographing the procedure I took several pictures of the speakers, figuring that folks like you would have questions like yours.
