Can the VIN number tell what options a car was built with?

Post by E-Man »

Any one know how much information can be extracted from a VIN number? engine, paint color, interior color, stereo options, wheels, transmission type, etc?

quote:Any one know how much information can be extracted from a VIN number? engine,Yes.quote:paint color, interior color, stereo options, wheels, transmission type, etc?No. Those things are coded on the options sticker in the glove box.Basically all a Vibe VIN will tell you is base vs AWD vs GT; if side airbags were ordered and what engine. That's it.

The numbers inside the glove box are what they call RPO codes.I can give anyone a list of their codes if they wish. I am using those codes to determine how many envy GT's were produced with certain option pakcages.
Just here to lend a hand to people who have questions about their Vibe.

For those of you who don't know, RPO stands for Regular Production Order. Each option for every GM car has an RPO number associated with it. Each code is 3 digits. For example, codes starting with "L" are used for engines, codes starting with "M" are for transmissions, codes starting with "G" and "F" usually have to do with the suspension, etc. Here are some common RPO codes everyone should know:Z28 = this was the high performance Camaro package. Chevrolet just happened to use the code as the cars name.Z24 = performance CavalierZ26 = this was the Nova SS from 1968 thru 1976, the Nova Rally from 1977 thru 1979 and then the performance Beretta in the 80's.I have a whole list of 1962-79 Nova RPO codes on my Nova webpage:http://www.novaresource.com/rpo.htm
