1zz/2zz spark plugs interchangeable?

Post by Unbelievabrah »

just as the subject says, will 2zz spark plugs work in my 1zz engine?

manual says this
Base = DENSO SK16R11, NGK IFR5A11 or GM Part No. 94859448; Gap: 0.043 inch (1.1 mm)
GT = DENSO SK20R11, NGK IFR6A11 or GM Part No. 88969637; Gap: 0.043 inch (1.1 mm)

not quite all to sure what to make off it since im still learning the mechanical aspect of auto-motives except that i think heat ranges are different (off by 1 step) from econo 1zz to the more strung out 2zz engine that would appear to have to run cooler, i.e. level NGK 6/DENSO16. However, since the gaps are the same, will GT purpose spark plugs fit/operate correctly in a base car?

I live in a hot climate (los angeles) and regularly drive canyons hard so I think I would benefit from getting a colder spark plug anyways, I also would like to switch over to Copper instead of the stated iridium tip'd only plugs the manual says. I understand I will have to change these copper plugs more frequently but it should increase my overall spark yielding better performance/mileage even if they only last 15-20k tops. I will be of course check the condition of them every 2nd oil change i do every 3k miles. Will the ones i list below work in my 06 base vibe? I think they will but im just making sure by checking here. I also know that i will have to gapper to adjust the gap to the correct 1.1m distance.

thanks for any input in advance for anybody replying to my topic.

I'm sure it will thread right in, BUT I don't see any gains with the 2zz plug. I'd say stick with a good quality plug for your engine. Moving to a cooler plug, unless boosted will not affect the engine temp or performance one bit IMHO.
