coil over sleeves

Post by passtimik »

I had Tein lowering springs installed a while back on my old factory shocks and struts. I just installed new KYB shocks and struts on my 04 vibe, kept the lowering springs and noticed an approximate 1 1/2" lift. I guess the old suspension was pretty bad. Now I want my car lowered to where it was before. Looks aside, it handled better when it was lower, but the ride was harsh. I like the ride now as far as pot holes and bumps in the road, but now I sacrifice handling. So I was thinking that coil over sleeves are the way to go. Does anyone have a better idea, advice, experience or any input I can use. TIA.

How long have the new struts been on the car? If they haven't had time to settle yet you won't be at your full drop. Coilover sleeves I have heard aren't very worth it, but the regard I was hearing them spoken about was for performance. For adjustability of ride height, you might be okay. However, there are some good deals on coilovers out there. On the GV bookFace page someone has a set of Tein Basic coilovers, brand new, for a good price if you're interested. Coilovers have adjustable dampening, so you can tune them to be as harsh or soft as they allow. That said I am not sure if the Tein Basics have adjustable damper rates, or just fewer than the Tein SS coilovers.

Good point. I've only had the new suspension for a week. I didn't think about the settling. I suppose i'll wait to see it there is any settling.

That's why I love this site. There's always someone here who has an answer. thanks

You're welcome! Keep us updated on if it settles or not. It usually takes some time for even used struts to settle, so brand new ones may need more time.
