Clutch and flywheel recommendation?

Post by 05vibeOH »

Hello! New member here from Ohio! I have an 05 Moonstone Vibe GT with 173k and original clutch. Clutch pedal travel is almost to the top and I think I better prepare for the inevitable!! I wanted to here from some members who have recently replaced their clutch and flywheel what they had purchased and if they were satisfied. I did a search on clutch recommendations and found some but they were several years old! I have not had a chance to research if anything new has come out recently. I am looking at purchasing both a clutch and flywheel and did not want to spend more than $400 if possible. I would like to purchase a lighter flywheel but I am concerned about the reliability of an aftermarket one and also concerned that it will change driving dynamics/shifting. I have no mods completed on the vehicle and I am easy on the clutch so I probably do not need more than a stage 1 clutch? What is the true benefit of a lightened flywheel? Does it really make a difference shifting? I apologize for the long post and thank you for everyone's time who responds!

Our '06 non GT has about the same mileage and is due. I'll be getting an Exedy Stage 1. http://www.ebay.com/itm/EXEDY-NEW-CLUTC ... 07&vxp=mtr

A lightened flywheel is not of much advantage at all. I'll be resurfacing my stock flywheel and you could probably do the same. Unless the clutch has been slipping and generating a lot of heat, the flywheel should be in good shape for resurfacing.

Welcome Genvibe. 175K miles on a GT is AWESOME. I hope you hit LIFT from time to time.

Not sure you can get both for under 400. Just get a regular factory clutch. ACT clutch is around 350. With a lightened flywheel you will need to shift faster. Your RPMs will rise and drop faster. You can just resurface your old one if you need to.
