For all you GT and XRS owners who haven't seen this yet..there is a way to disable your anoying BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP while in reverse and still know that your in reverse for under 3 bucks! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ For all you who ONLY want to get rid of the beep...read on: You will need: phillips screwdriver, wire cutters (dikes), electrical tape. All you have to do is first pull off the shroad around the gauges (chrome rings..it just unclips). Secound undo the lil screw at top dead center. Third, unclip the two clips at the bottom on either side of the gauge pod. Then slide the gauge pod out gentley. Unclip the back of the pod to the wireing harness. Find the red wire with the thin black stripe (3rd from the right i think). Cut it and tape off the ends, no more beep and everything else will work just fine! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- IF you want to be like me and a few others on Matrix Owners.net and install a cheap and effective LED light (for insurence your in reverse) read on: You will need: phillips screwdriver, wire cutters (dikes), electrical tape, drill and drill bit to match the size of LED light, Pre-wired LED light, bunt style wire connectors and possibly (depending on location of LED) extra wire. Find a Radio Shack or other electronics store near you and buy a pre-wired (power and ground wire) LED for like 2 or 3 bucks. Also, if you do not have any small bunt style connectors, buy some (maybe another 2 bucks). Find a place to install the LED light (I drilled a hole the size of the light in my dash above and to the right of the gauge pod). Drill hole and slide wire and light housing in. Make sure it fits and locks in snug. Complete same proceedure as above, then use the hot wire (one coming from the car, not the gauge pod) and connect it to the power wire on the LED. Then connect the ground wire to any metel screw you see that it close enough (MAKE SURE you give yourself enough slack to later put back gauge pod!). Put car in reverse and turn key to start. Check to see if light is lighting. If not, check ground wire and/or power wire for good connection. If lit, carefully re-install your gauge pod and chrome trim rings and VOILA!
That was going to be my next mod! Thanks for the head start. Any Pics? My other thought was to hunt for the beeper and add a bit of 200 mph tape (duct) to mute it a bit

YES!I still visit GenVibe periodically. I have not forgotten about my "original" family over here!
It has to do with the location of the reverse gear on the 6-speed transmission. It is up next to first. In order to make sure your in reverse and not first, the car will beep.IMHO, I like the beep. And more importantly, my wife likes the beep - so the beep stays. Can anybody say "whipped"?
Does anyone know how to just change the tone? I don't mind the beep but would like it to be a different tone. Perhapse I can swap out the current device for another one with a lower tone?
