Post by SomeYahoo »

Just wanted to say a quick hi and thanks for all the great information on the site. After a long search, finally found an '04 Abyss GT in pretty good shape. Put a coat of polish and wax on the somewhat neglected paint and ended up with this:

Already starting the to-do list:
- New radio (have to have bluetooth, especially while rowing a 6-speed)
- Recirculation gear repair (going to try the 180° rotation trick)
- Ordered a new remote - looks like quite the programming technique...
- ???

Thanks again for all the info, and hope to be contributing back to the forum soon!

Great to hear you found one! Very nice looking Abyss GT! Welcome back to the family ;)!

I see you're in southeast Michigan. You should consider coming to the 2014 GenVibe meet (assuming we indeed have it in Pontiac, IL as it's looking like we will as of right now). It wouldn't be too far of a drive for you.

Welcome back neighbor! You're just to the north of me. Glad you found something that you can live with for a good 10 years or so. Keep the underside well lubed up to prevent long term corrosion as you know how corrosive these roads are that we have to drive on during the winter. Visit often & get involved. Hope to see you at the summer 2014 GenVibe meet :D

You talkin about lubing the ball joints, etc, or do you have an anti-rust concoction up your sleeve?

No. Just a general spraying of an oily substance on areas that will be prone to rust. Our neighbors in Canada have this but not here in the states http://www.krown.com/rust-protect/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Hmmmm... If I ran across the border, do you think they'd spray me? Any downsides to the product? Heavy?

I'm sure they would! I've even considered it as it sounds like a foolproof way to keeping the underside rust free. Basically it is a petroleum product which, unlike traditional undercoating products, will "creep" into all cracks, seams, crevasses and lubricate (for lack of a better term) the panels, seams and surrounding metals. The downside is that they like their customers to return for an annual coating to assure you stay "rust free". Otherwise the product could dissipate and then you lose the protection. I'd look into this and maybe some of our Canadian GenVibers can chime in here to offer testimonial or additional feedback on this product & services.
