Antenna Issues

Post by MetalFiend »

I have an 09 Vibe, has anyone else had issues with their radio reception coming very poorly. Our other vehicle gets reception just fine but the Vibe is always horrible.

I can't really comment on the reception of AM/FM radio stations on our Vibes because we typically listen to XM or CDs :|.

Do you live near a major city or do you live far out in the middle of nowhere? I know your location can greatly effect reception.

No problems with my '09. Original radio? Has anyone messed with it? AM? FM? or both?

We live in the city and it's effecting AM and FM stations. The reason i know it's an issue with the reception is because our other vehicle gets great reception from the same radio stations we listen to in the Vibe. For some reason the stations come in very poorly and in some areas not at all. I was wondering if it was common but it sounds like it's not.

I listen to mostly XM and CD's also, but when I occasionally see whats on its always fine. I even have a stubby antenna and can't really tell much difference.

Maybe a stupid question on my part, but has any work been done behind the dash (AC/heater, or other)? If yes, could the antennae have been pulled out of the radio? Are you using a factory radio?

It has been a while since I messed with radios but it seems that most AM antennas are internal and only the FM really requires the external antenna. If your issue is with both AM and FM I have no clue where to look. Nevertheless I would pull the radio and check for a clean solid connection at the antenna cable.

Still have the factory radio and I'm not sure if it has been messed with at all. I have had the car for a year now and i purchased it with 78K miles. Was thinking of just replacing the antenna eventually or swapping out the factory radio. I really appreciate all of your input, thanks everyone!
