Headrest Storage Solution

Post by xcmtb83 »

Hello again everyone. It has been a while since I last posted here. I guess that is what happens when your car is reliable. :)

I am posting in regards to the headrest storage, or lack thereof in Vibes and Matrixs when the back seats are folded down. We like to haul our dogs around in the Vibe so almost always the seats are folded down. The same is true with our 4Runner which also has no good place to store the headrests when the seats are folded down so I came up with a solution that I will soon be implementing into the Vibe as well (the 4Runner already has the my invention/solution installed). I am quite active on other Toyota forums online especially t4r.org where I have outlined my headrest storage idea in the link below. I have been selling quite a few of the 4Runner brackets so I thought I should share my idea with the Vibe/Matrix community as well. The only difference in the 4Runner brackets vs the Vibe or Matrix brackets will be the distance of the holes from each other due to the larger rear headrests in the Vibe/Matrix vehicles.

I plan to make some Vibe/Matrix brackets (and a few extra) so if you would like a set please PM me and we can share Paypal and mailing address info. Price is $27 USPS Priority shipping included.

That's a pretty cool solution. I shared this on the GenVibe Facebook page, so you might get some interest from there. It's a bit better than tossing the headrests onto the floor. How sturdy are they?

The brackets are incredibly strong. I was expecting them to be a lot more flexible post machining but they retained a lot of strength.

Thanks for sharing!

What a great idea!

I would totally purchase a set if I had my seats down more often. :)

Creative invention but I must be missing something here. I keep the backseats down 100% of the time, but the headrests stay on the seats with no problem. My Vibe is an 03 if that matters.

I'm 6'6", so the front drivers seat is all the way back, all the time. We keep the passenger seat parallel with the driver seat. When the rear seats are folded forward the headrest hits the back of the drivers seat, blocking the rear seat back from going flat.

I'm under but close to six foot (and growing) and until recently didn't need to remove the headrests. This is seated properly with SCCA and other driving clinics positioning me perfectly. The shorter amongst us should be fine without the holders. But after my next paycheck, I might be interested in a set.

Nice! I'm 5'10" and my seat is all of the way back; I try to stay as far away from the airbag as possible and I don't like my legs cramped.

I think the brackets are very innovative. One concern would be a rear seat passenger hitting that bracket in a collision or quick stop. I can see someone suffering severe facial or dental damage hitting that thing.

I keep the driver's seat all the way back and can still fold down the rear seat with the headrest in place.

After reading some posts on here from others, I removed the rear seat headrests completely and tossed them in a cabinet somewhere. I now have much better visibility using the interior rear view mirror. I can see out the entire rear window now instead of only the upper 2/3. I seldom have a rear seat passenger and even when I do, it is usually a grandchild that is too short to benefit from the headrest anyhow.
