1.4 liter turbo

Post by jeremych56 »

I haven't seen a thread on this topic, I was wondering if it was possible to drop the ecotech 1.4 liter turbo engine into an 07 vibe.

First Welcome to GenVibe! We are happy to have you here :D

The trouble is the only aspects the Toyota engines in the Vibe and the GM 1.4L Turbo share are the fact that they are four cylinder and dual overhead cam. Everything would have to be changed, and many one off custom built things made.

Sorry.

If you're looking to pick up some HP (and not much TQ) the 2ZZ would be a better option for your car. Or a Supercharger, or Turbo.

That doesn't produce much power more than a 1zz so why do it. Turbo a 1zz you'd be better off and money ahead

More torque than the 1ZZ, but not much difference in horsepower.

I have this engine in the Sonic -- while it's a good engine offering plenty of power and fuel economy, I can't see how it would be worth the tremendous amount of effort to transplant into a Vibe for such minimal gain. Trying to make it bolt in will be enough of a challenge, then you have to deal with GM's heavily computerized everything. In general, it would be a nightmare.

Then, you have to find a suitable transmission. The Sonic kids seem to complain constantly about the manual transmission slapped to that engine. I have the 6T40 automatic, which has some really nice gear ratios but it sucks at life when it comes to other things, especially shift quality. It makes the 1st gen Vibe's slushbox (which I once found a bit harsh) now seem like a marvel of smoothness and refinement.

A swap to a Toyota something or other would be a better option.
