2003 base model vibe - strange humming sound. bad bearing ?

Post by drjjg »

Greetings, I'm new here and am having trouble with my car. Since spring, after putting my all seasons on, the car makes a droning sound. that almost sounds like tire noise. I thought it was just the tires and ignored it since i didn't drive it much over summer. I assumed once I put my winter tires on, the noise would stop. unfortunately , it didn't. The sound increases with speed, particularly above 70kmh. The noise also increases when the wheel is turned right. From what I've read , this sounds like a driver side bearing. Does this sound accurate ? Has anyone experienced this ? any help would be appreciated .

I agree sounds like a wheel bearing.
Can you tell if it's coming from the front or the back?
You can confirm this by lifting the wheel of the ground (chock the other wheels, and use jackstands).
If you suspect the front, put the car in neutral, and turn the wheel/tire by hand.
If you suspect the rear, release the parking brake, and turn the wheel/tire by hand.
You should be able to hear a grinding noise.

The front ones are pressed in, and the rear ones are a sealed unit in which the hub is replaced.
