this topic has been touched on in the Engine forum, but other than one dealer saying this rattling/vibration was a characteristic of the fuel pump (not acceptable imo..).. I have an intermittent rattle in the back coming from underneath the vehicle.. it seems like its a loose exhaust pipe or something.. anybody have a similar problem, and if so, how was it resolved?I have a 2004 AWD Vibe..thanks
I was thinking catalytic converter heat shield too. That is not uncommon as they start to loosen as the shield begins to corrode. It is possible the heat shield could have been a little loose from the factory too. It happens.
well, the dealer called back.. they didnt hear it when they drove, but they felt the heat shield and they could feel it vibrate.. so they replaced it and tightened it.. Ill see in the next coming days if thats what it was.I forgot to mention, but this rattling/vibration occurs when I am at idle (stop light, drivethrough, backing out of the garage, etc..)thanks for the input!
check to make sure you don't have any stones above the shield, i had some after i went down an dirt road. went away after i did some sharp turns.

I also had similar noises but it was coming from stones stuck on the cover above the muffler. I just gave the cover a little shake and the stones rolled off.
