2003 GT VVTL-i problems

Post by mattcrystal1 »

I had the engine replaced in my GT and I heard there are 2 different VVTL-i engines. I bought a used one and had it replaced. Before it was replaced it would hit 6000 rpm and take off like a bullet. With this other VVTL-i engine it falls on its face at 7200 rpm. What are the differences between the engines and what would cause this? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time,
Matt

Are you sure you put in a 2zz engine? Maybe VVtl-I isn't working on the new engine.

Ya I know the lift isn't working and yes its the 2zz engine. I'm trying to figure out why the lift isn't working. Right now its working like the oringinal engine did when it was cold.

You can check the VVTL-i actuator. Make sure it plugged in (if it wasn't you should get a code) and it pulls in when 12Volts is applied. The actuator is controlled by the ECU (PCM). As far as 2 different 2zz engines I'm not really sure on that.

Got it figured out! It was sending a code about the tach and come to find out it was the OCV that was giving the problems. It's back to normal and works good again.

Good that you got it figured out. With the 2zz if you have codes they can trigger the ECU to go in a safe mode and it will keep you from going into lift. Most common problem usually is a dirty OCV. Glad you got it working.
