Fender Replacement

Post by Vaggeto »

I changed my fender out recently and it was a huge pain for various reasons. (I couldn't figure out that the Fender "cowl" seal belonged at the top)

It was extremely difficult to remove as it has many of those square retainers which are extremely difficult to get out without easy access to pinch them from behind. In this case several were almost impossible to access from behind so i needed to break a couple. No big deal I can always replace them.

I could have used a manual that lists parts and diagrams anything out. Sadly the Vibe/Matrix Service Manual which has such great detail for things like the front bumper doesn't even mention the fender once! I am shocked.

Does anyone have a good source for finding out exactly what retaining clips are needed and where the cheapest place to get them is?

Well, I had to go to a GM dealer to get replacements for them. When they pull up the parts, there will be two versions: the cheaper one will work. The diagram at the parts department at the dealership is much more helpful than the ones I'm finding online.

Thanks!

I found some of these on Ebay!

Any idea what the part # is for the retainers that have the phillips screwdriver slots? They hold in the front bumper from both above and below as well as at the back of the front fender where the side rail is.

Thanks again!

Well, I'd actually take THOSE ones to a collision center and ask where I can get a clip similar in design and size. They offend me personally, because I like the ones you can stick a flat screwdriver under a lot more.

Just to make sure, the first ones you asked about are the ones that the screws thread into along the fender flares inside the wells, right? They sounded like it. I destroyed every single one of mine while replacing my liners.
