Passenger Airbag light 1/2 on?

This is what my Passeneger airbag light looks like after I start the car - just the work "AIRBAG" is lit. It seems to go through the check process where it cycles through the ON and OFF light up, but when all is said and done I'm left with just "AIRBAG" lit up. The owners manual seems to say that it's doing the correct thing but doesn't address particular issue - or not clear enough for me to understand...

Does it change when an adult sits down in the passenger's seat?

Ours just has the seat belt light. Someone with an '05-'08 can correct me, but I seem to recall people stating it shows only AIRBAG if the seat is unoccupied. ON if it detects an adult seated, and OFF if a passenger is detected but weight not sufficient for air bag deployment. Or something like that.
