New Lock Actuators

Post by 09vGT »

My front two door locks have been sticking intermittently over the last two years. The passenger side has finally bit the dust and the drivers side is not too far behind. The dealer quoted a total of $350.00 including labor, per door. Thats means the total would be a whopping $700.00. I need new ones. Where would be the best place to look? I need something cheaper than the $700.00.

The part numbers they listed on the sheet are 19184219 and 19184218.

I guess that would be the only part needed?

Thanks!

Holy cow ! $ 700.00 ? How mechanically inclined are you ? If you feel you can tackle it yourself....I paid about $130.00 each for my 1st gen Vibe. I had the same problem as you. Doors locking intermittently. Been like that since I bought the Vibe until they died. I bought both my driver side & pass side at rock auto.

The cheapest I could find online are $145.00 a piece. Looks like I'm stuck with that. Now I need to find a reliable mechanic thats not ridiculously expensive.

I feel ya man, I was in same boat as you. If your strapped for cash you can always do the drivers side first, then the pass side when you can. Thats what I did. Easier to unlock the driver side with the remote. Good luck !

Here's what I found for you Ethan:

#19184218 - MSRP (Dealer price): $195.57 | GMPartsCenter.net: $140.81
#19184219 - MSRP (Dealer price): $198.33 | GMPartsCenter.net: $142.80

MSRP Total: $393.90 | GMPartsCenter.net Total: $283.61 - 5% discount ($14.18) = $269.43 + $8.95 (handling) = $278.38

Check out GMPartsCenter.net's Facebook page as they are always listing discount codes (i.e. 5% orders over $100.00, etc.) on there.

I have ordered from GMPC many times and have never had an issue, so I highly recommend them.

As far as a mechanic goes, do some research online and/or talk to friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, classmates, etc. about who they recommend.

Also, lets hope that this doesn't become a common problem to where we all will have to replace them somewhere in the future :? With the GT suspension, tires, etc. and possibly your driving habits (don't take offense to that comment) maybe your Vibe GT was subjected to MORE than normal "shock abuse" :x This would explain why they internally were slowly on their way out. Good luck on the replacement ones when you get them!
