New Vibe Owner, misc questions, some dumb

Post by rapier »

New 03 Vibe GT owner with a few questions which the manual doesn't seem to answer

There is a button on the sunroof cluster which says ASC. What is it? It stays red but pressing it does nothing.

Does the CD player play MP3's, The head unit or the changer? The thing is I swear it played an MP3 disk from the head unit when I first started checking things out, before I even knew there was a changer, but now it does not seem to recognize MP3 disks in either location.

The 03 doesn't have the tire inflation test system does it?

Any other hidden or obscure things you know of which I might have missed.

Hello and welcome to GenVibe! We like pictures here, so when you get the chance, post up your GT.

ASC? Could you get a picture of it? I don't know exactly what you're referring to.

Not sure about the headunit... Is an MP3 CD not working? I think the 05+ may have gotten an MP3 sticker on the headunits, but I'm not well versed in the stock headunit.

There is no tire pressure monitor for the first-gen Vibes.

If you wanted to check out the "Everything you need to know about the Vibe" thread in my sig you could find out some things you didn't previously know.

I'd like to show a picture of the ASC button but I can't figure out how to post an image from my computer. The Img command requires a hash tagged link. I used to use boards like this but have forgotten.

You could upload it via the "Upload attachment" tab just below the reply box.

Only thing I can say about playing MP3's is that if you "finalized" the CD to play on any standard CD player, then it should play. Is the head unit the OEM unit?

It is the OEM player, with 6 disk changer. I hadn't made a MP3 disk in a long time so will work on this.

That is an aftermarket sunroof, not a factory installed one. ASC is American Sunroof Corporation and that is their logo.

This is what a factory sunroof and controls looks like:

I'm shocked. I sent them a note asking about the light. I thought, with the disk changer the sunroof was part of the 'Moons and Tunes' package.

The thing I know, Carfax, is that it was bought off lease in 06 when it had only 20K miles. One other owner who obviously was meticulous. Well except that evidently the parking brake shoes are missing but that's another story.

I have tried 4 different burning programs to burn MP3's to disk and none work. Yes I have a factory unit, Nav with 6 disk changer. When inserted into the head unit it says cannot read DVD. When put in the changer it shows 1 file, it 'plays' to the extent it shows time elapsed, but no sound.

All the programs I have used make playable disks that work on computers. Any suggestions about a program that will work or does it simply not play MP3 files?

Hello, well I have the same car 03 Vibe GT, Silver with black molding, with Nav system and 6-CD under the pas. seat. You have to make sure you use a CD burning program and not windows media. I have had problems with some disks also but as long as I use the roxy program usually works unless its an MP4 then it will still burn but the unit won't read it or show only 1 file on it. The sunroof is after market, you couldn't get sunroof with Nav. system because the antenna for the GPS was mounted in the area where the sunroof would be. Wondering if your Nav system is working? Any other questions be glad to help. I have about 170k on mine and still love the power and how it drives. Have you hit 6k on the RPMs yet and felt the quick pick-up you get? Only the GTs have that engine in them.
