what part is this?

Post by canadave »

When we open the fuel tank door and take off the gas cap, the metal piece where you insert the gas nozzle is very rusted. Is there any way to clean that up safely or replace it? I don't even know what that part is called...is it part of the fuel tank assembly, or is it some kind of conduit, or what?

Check the parts diagram. Looks like it is a separate bit.

Make sure you order the correct one, and possibly check the Matrix XR parts manuals, and maybe get it cheaper from Toyota. Or, car-part.com (check for fuel cap or fuel tank) to search local salvage yards for Vibes/Matrices you could pick apart.

Wow, cool, thanks! That's awesome. Looks like it's part #12 and/or #15 on that diagram.

I guess the next question would be, if I order the part(s), how to actually replace it :) My luck, I'll have to remove the entire quarterpanel to get at it...LOL

EDIT: Oh...actually, I suppose it could be the upper end of part #5, too. That would not be good :(

Might be worth stopping by your local GM dealer

Right on. I'll take it to a dealer other than my local one (see my "crossbar removal tale of woe" thread for the reason why...lol)
