Hi....any suggestions for good quality all season tires that are fairly quiet, good performance and best possible in snow. I presently have General Altimax P20555R16 91 H. Came with car...from what I read these are not the factory recommended size and tire shop said there are better tires out there now.
Sorry to ask such a basic question but my guy friends are not into cars at all. : }
205/55/16 should be the correct tire size. As far as tire recommendations, check out Tire Rack. You can read reviews, compare multiple tires at once and much more.

I glanced at at article where women were complaining about the complexity of buying a bra. Buying tires has to be equally difficult. Too many brands, too many choices within brands. I recently purchased Yokahama's YK580's, a 60,000 mile tire at Discount Tire that is supposed to be "quiet". I don't drive much so the Michelin 90,000 mile tire didn't offer any advantage. There was a Pirelli energy efficient tire (P6, P7?) that was also a contender. But anything was better than the OEM Goodyear RSA's. So far I am happy with my selection.
I got out the door for a little over $500 for 4 after rebate. See my other post for details.

Thank you both for replying! Buying a bra is a walk in the park compared to tires. : ) I tend to over research electronics and auto purchases.
When i looked at Tire Rack and read reviews my eyes started glazing over. I then decided to call a couple of reliable mechanics and they gave me conflicting opinions. I guess I will take a break and then start researching again. I have another month or two to agonize over this. : ) Thanks again for your feedback!

Tires are like spouses - an impossible task to find the "best" one, all you can hope for is to avoid the worst ones.

And everybody (who avoids the worst ones) thinks theirs are the best ones.
Are you talking about tires or spouses? As for my new Yokahama tires and my spouse of 46 years I can assure you that I could have done much worse in either category.

In the winter I have a set of Goodyear Nordics that I put on. They're very noisy and expensive but if you want the best possible tire for driving in the snow that's it.
I had a set of YK580's on the Aztek and by far they were great tires! I would suggest them to anyone
Now both my aunts and my dad have the Defenders on their cars and with the rebates they have on them is pretty nice right now! ALL of them have seen an increase in their fuel economy (Aunt 1 = 2006 Cobalt, Aunt 2 = 2012 Grand Caravan, Dad = 2009 Impala). They are great tires!
