Mystery sound- HELP!

Post by DoreRJ15 »

Vibers, i'm looking for your help.

Last night my 05 base vibe started making a mystery sound while I was driving home. It sounds like en electrical motor is running in my dashboard (left side dear the windshield) and it makes a "pop" sound. there is no rhythm to it, its random but very continuous. I've tried adjusting my fan, my radio, headlights, wipers- nothing has any effect on it.

What could this be?!

when i started the car this afternoon- no sound, but later tonight it started and made that noise all night while driving around town (ir's really annoying!!)

i'm going to pop out the glove box tomorrow and do some investigating but would love your help to figure out what this is, i'm completely lost!

Left side? Not sure what that could be.

If it's on the right side of the dash, say near the passenger air bag, it's probably the dreaded recirculate door motor. Try changing the recirculate off or on and see if it changes.

There are many threads on this, such as this one.

It can be a DIY thing, however it will be painful. ;) It's a $40-something part for the actuator or you can disassemble and flip the gear over that has stripped. Some have been quoted hundreds in labor at the shop if you have them do it.
