hi everyone

Post by redvibe03 »

Hi , I'm Robert, I have an 03 vibe with 92,000 miles, 5 speed, fwd. My engine burns a lot of oil and smokes on startup. It passes the emissions test just fine, anyone have any suggestions?

Welcome to GenVibe Robert :) Can't comment on the "smoking issue" as I have a 2009 that runs fine! That's low mileage for a 10-11 year old car. Post pics & other info when you get a chance :D

Welcome to GenVibe Robert! I too own a 2009, so I can't comment on your issues, but I'm sure someone will chime in with some insight for you. Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Welcome to GenVibe! If it's burning oil (white-blue smoke) then I don't see why you wouldn't pass emissions. Does it always smoke? If it is just white (no blue tint/hue) it could just be water vapor.

Hey guys Im new here my self. I do have a 04 vibe with 270,000 no issues yet. But I also have a 99 Corolla With about 160,000 and it had gotten ran with very low I mean very low oil to where it would not run. We got the valves to work again and got it running it does not burn oil at start up but it does burn it at highway speeds. .

If it smokes on start up, it is generally the valve seals. As the car sits overnight, the oil in the top of the motor travels down the valve stems and into the pistons. When you start it in the morning, all of that oil is burned off and it smokes for a while and then clears up. My Mustang was doing that for the last 100K miles and I just added some of the no-smoke additive to the oil every oil change and it cut down on the oil usage. It got to the point I was adding a quart of oil every 500 miles or so, but with the additive it increased it up to 900 miles or so.

Good luck on it.
