Compressor Replacement help

Post by mattmcneil »

Hey everyone, im new to here, I tried searching some for what im looking for but didnt seem to find it. Im going to be replacing a ac compressor on my 04 vibe later today with a used one. I plan on using the Duracool® Mobile A/C Tune-Up Kit. comes with the can of drier, system seal and ac oil chill. What about the oil for the compressor? Will this 4 ounce can of ac oil chill take care of that or do I still need to get a bottle of PAG oil to top off the used compressor. First time I have owned a car that has ac. Any help would be appreciated

You probably already installed it, but there is a standard total oil charge for any AC system that you can look up online. I've completely replaced my Mustang's system, and have experience with it. Generally they recommend installing the oil in the condenser, evaporator and compressor to let it disperse throughout the system. Most new compressors come loaded with an oil charge, but a used one might not have much if any. What you should do is drain the old compressor and the new one, and then refill the new one with the same amount of new oil as in the old one. Generally the oil does not escape that much so you don't usually have to add it, unless the system blew out completely under pressure - like mine did. Especially if the used compressor was open to the elements, you might want to pour some new oil into it and flush it through the compressor by turning the pulley to clean it up.

Make sure you vacuum the system down to check for leaks,(should hold at -28 for 30-45 min or so) and to get all air and moisture out of the system so it will accept the new charge easily.

Good luck!
