New XM Commander

Post by Jwnmt »

Hello everyone in GenVibe land! I was just on the XM radio website last week and noticed that they have a few new products coming out within the next month. The first is called the "Roady" and is a ready to roll package that runs about $120.00 without the subscription. This package is a DIY install with a small receiver that has a cassette adapter for your head unit. Since I have the Moons and Tunes package this would not work for me. The second product is the XM "Commander" which runs about $150.00 without a subscription. This package comes with a different receiver along with an FM modulator that broadcasts to your radio. This seems like the best way to go since the original SkiFi receiver is a little on the expensive side for my tastes. Of course I have a few misgivings about having someone else touch my Abyss pride and joy. How would the new antenna be mounted and how much of the dash would need to be ripped out. Any comments or discussion will be great! Here is the link...................http://www.xmradio.com/get_xm/ Jwnmtp.s. Notice a familar car on the website?

Cool. Thanks for the info. I have been recently looking into this as well, but did not see the new Commander.

Yes, the Roady and the Commander will be out by the end of the month. The antenna that comes with either is the smallest yet! It's magnet mounted, so you can put it almost anywhere. Mine, right now, is just behind the antenna on the roof, I ran the antenna wire through the top of the hatch, along the ceiling until just above the right rear passenger seatbelt. Ran the wire down and toward the front from there. If you get a Pro-Fit mount, the Roady will mount just to the right of the A/C Controls. The Commander is like a CD Changer. The actual reciever can mount anywhere, and the control panel is just like a CD Changer remote, you can velcro it anywhere you want! Here's the review on the Roady --> http://www.xmfan.com/viewtopic.php?t=10420Here's the available info on the Commander --> http://www.xmradio.com/commander/And here's the pro-fit mount --> http://shop.store.yahoo.com/xmfanstore/prvespmo.htmlIf you have any questions about XM hardware, install, or anything in general, feel free to let me know! I've had XM since September of last year, and keep a close track on it. I've also done plenty of installs on it.:D
