No Air Whatsoever!

Post by rolltide1584 »

I have a 2005 Vibe 2wd. I was just bragging the other day about how I just hit 175k and haven't had any problems at all! I've always been a Ford lover but when i got this car to use for work when my wife got a new car, i was amazed at how well its done. however i may have jinxed my self. as i was driving home i noticed that i could hear a small electric motor running while i had the air on. turned off the a/c and you could still hear it, then it just stopped after about 10 minutes. im assuming theres a fan somewhere that forces the air out of the vents, but how do i replace it and where is it located? any help is appreciated! thanks!

The motor you heard could have been the radiator/AC condenser cooling fan located behind the radiator in the engine compartment. Does the heater/cabin blower fan operate properly inside the car, all 4 speeds? 1st gen. Vibes are notorious for cabin blower motor problems! :(

i know it wasnt the radiator fan or anything. you could tell it was coming from inside the car or on the firewall. absolutely no air blows, no matter what speed. do you know where the blower would be located? thanks!

Here is a thread on the blower motor location and replacement.

If the blower motor is running, but no air is coming from the vents, might want to check to see if the air flow divider is stuck on defrost or floor. Also when you change speed setting from the dash does the motor sound change?

thanks for the reply! when the climate controls are set to on, absolutely nothing comes out of the vents. when it went out, the fan was set to the low setting and a/c was off. then i heard a sound coming from the dash area reminiscent of a ball bearing going out in an electric motor, then it just stopped working.

Sounds like a blower motor. Using the posts above, remove the blower motor and spin it with your hand if it binds or makes noise, will need replaced.
Did a quick search on eBay to locate price range and options. Some come as complete kits, others are motor only, no blower wheel. If you are able to remove and attach the blower, you could save some money. GM part for the 03-08 is 88973567:

Napa has the blower with wheel, next day availability in most areas:

Let us know how it turns out, I am just ahead of you in mileage so it could be just a matter of time...

it was the blower motor itself. did a bench test on it and it was shot. instead of spending nearly a couple hundred bucks like the local repair shop wanted, i went and got one out of salvage yard vibe. from the looks, its an aftermarket. paid 5 bucks for it, went out to parking lot, hooked it up and it works like a charm! hopefully it will hold out for awhile. i know its the cheap route to go but this is a work car, not our family car. went ahead and replaced the cabin filter too. when i pulled the old one out, it pretty much had disintegrated. this is the first non-routine maintenance problem with the car. wife bought it new in 2005, and we started dating i began putting synthetic oil in it. replaced spark plugs and coolant at 160k. really couldnt be happier with it! just waiting for it to cool off outside to put the PCM and glove box back in!
