EVAP Emissions Module

Post by biodieselrabbit »

I recently moved to a new state and had to go in for a different emissions test. Unfortunately the vibe's battery had died from sitting too long so all of the emissions modules had been reset and needed to go through their retests. This typically requires what is referred to as a "drive cycle". After performing one though, my OBDII reader kept showing that the EVAP Emission Module had not run its test. I figured I was doing something wrong in my drive cycle. The EVAP Emissions Module is the one that checks whether the fumes from your fuel tank are being captured and returned to the tank rather than being allowed to enter the atmosphere.
What I later discovered through searching the web is that the EVAP Emissions Module will only run its test if the fuel tank is between about 30% and 70% full. Guess I need to go burn some more gasoline. Hopefully this information helps someone else out in the near future.
